Dora Benley wore not only feathers but lots of artificial flowers of the silk variety. Ladies put these on their hats as well as on their waistbands and around their sleeves. Clothes in the Edwardian era were fussy and elaborate, what people nowadays would consider downright impractical. It was a sign of class structure, of ladies who didn’t have to work. It was all to change after World War 1. Please refer to www.edwardwarethrillers.org for pictures.
